Based in Franklinton, Louisiana, and founded in summer of 2013, the Memory Walkers have grown to become a well-known organization in Washington Parish; the organization strives to promote Alzheimer’s Awareness and fund Alzheimer’s research. It is a donation driven, volunteer ran, and community based program that strives to serve those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
The Memory Walkers are governed by a five member Executive Board that oversees all organization functions, sets the fundraising goal each fiscal year, and determines where the needs of the community are.
The organization contributes to the Alzheimer’s Association on the state and national level each year; the Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s largest voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support, and advocacy. In addition to supporting state and national level Alzheimer’s awareness efforts, the Memory Walkers have set up the Dorthy Wood Memorial Contribution Fund that will go toward a Washington Parish Family who is affected by Alzheimer’s disease each December.
Organization meetings are held the third Monday of each month in the Homemaker’s Building at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds. Meetings are free and open to the public.
